HISTORY & LORE
First introduced in 1960, the Bulova Accutron was a revolutionary breakthrough in precision timekeeping. Designed by Max Hetzel, it bypassed traditional balance wheel mechanics in favor of an electronically driven tuning fork vibrating at 360 Hz. This innovation made the Accutron the world's first fully electronic watch and set a new benchmark for accuracy long before standard quartz took over the world in the late 1970s.
In 1974, when this specific model was produced, Bulova was pairing their iconic high-grade tuning fork movements (such as the caliber 2302) with distinct 70s futuristic case designs and premium German mesh bracelets. Today, vintage Accutron models remain highly coveted artifacts for horological purists and watchmakers passionate about 20th-century electronic innovations.
RECOMMENDATIONS
All antique and vintage watches require delicate handling. Please observe the following recommendations:
- Vintage electronic and mechanical watches should not be dropped or subjected to heavy shocks.
- Vintage watches are generally NOT waterproof. Protect this timepiece from direct exposure to water or high humidity.
- Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields (speakers, modern electronics, heavy machinery) as exposure can alter movement performance.
- If you plan to restore or service the movement, ensure work is done by a specialist trained in vintage Accutron / tuning fork mechanisms.
