In-House Manufacture Caliber Certina 19-30 / 17 Ruby Jewels

Patented Speidel USA Expansion Clasp-Free Bracelet

An elegant, beautifully preserved mid-century Swiss timekeeper, offering timeless elegance and superb mechanical precision for a lady's wrist.

Up for sale is a beautiful and highly reliable Certina Bristol 228 ladies' mechanical dress watch, proudly manufactured in Switzerland. The Bristol collection represents Certina's highly successful line of crisp, classic everyday luxury watches, known for their strict quality control and beautiful execution.

This dainty timepiece features a 25.5mm solid stainless steel case that houses a pristine, clean white minimalist dial. The dial is detailed with elegant black Arabic numerals and fine hands, providing excellent readability despite its delicate cocktail-watch scale. Under the hood, it is equipped with a high-grade, beautifully finished in-house Manufacture Certina Caliber 19-30 manual-wound movement with 17 ruby jewels, engineered entirely by Certina's master watchmakers in Switzerland.

Adding fantastic historical charm and absolute daily comfort, the watch comes fitted on its premium vintage 12mm Speidel USA patented expansion mesh-texture bracelet. This flexible, clasp-free design stretches smoothly over the hand and fits comfortably on almost any size wrist, offering a seamless and secure feel.

DEFECTS: Great vintage condition! The dial and hands are beautifully clean and crisp. The solid stainless steel case is sharp and well-preserved with only minor, honest micro-wear consistent with careful age. The acrylic crystal is clear and freshly polished. The patented Speidel USA expansion bracelet stretches beautifully and retains tight, comfortable elasticity. Ticking strong and keeping reliable time!

THE VINTAGE EXPERT NOTE

Finding high-grade vintage ladies' watches with entirely in-house movements is becoming a rarity, as many historic brands relied on third-party generic movements for smaller cases. Certina remained proud, scaling down their elite engineering to produce miniature movements like the Cal. 19-30 without compromising on durability or jewels. Paired with a historic Speidel USA expansion band, this Bristol 228 is an amazing mechanical jewel from a golden decade of European design.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All Antique and vintage watches are mechanical. Repairs require precision, so please handle this historical artifact with care.

  • Mechanical manual-wind watches should not be beaten or dropped - sudden shocks can damage the balance staff or hairspring pivots.
  • Vintage and pre-owned watches are generally NOT waterproof due to aging case gaskets. Protect this fine vintage timekeeper from immersion in water, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments.
  • If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
  • Wind the watch daily at around the same time. Turn the crown clockwise gently until you feel a distinct stopping resistance — do NOT force the crown past the stop point to protect the mainspring.
  • When adjusting the hands of your watch, it is best practice to move them in a clockwise direction only.
  • Every 2-3 years it is recommended to service, clean, and oil fine Swiss movements to keep them running accurately for generations to come.
  • Keep your watch away from strong modern magnetic fields (large speakers, modern laptops, magnetic cases) since magnetic exposure can alter the hairspring performance.
  • Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
  • Mechanical watches naturally experience a very minor daily deviation error. An accuracy of +/- 15 to 45 seconds a day is considered standard and excellent for a vintage compact caliber.
