Up for sale is a genuinely historic and collectible piece of vintage timekeeping engineering - a mechanical stopwatch crafted by the legendary Ed. Heuer & Co. (Switzerland). Heuer (now TAG Heuer) is universally celebrated for its unmatched precision timing instruments, making this mid-century piece a highly sought-after trophy for motorsport, sports history, and horological enthusiasts alike.

The stopwatch features a clean white analog dial with bold black numerals, a central chronograph hand, and a minute sub-register. The movement is protected by a brand new, high-grade mineral crystal. Powered by an authentic Swiss mechanical movement signed by Ed. Heuer & Co. with 7 ruby jewels, it is fully functional, keeps accurate timing, and is housed in a solid chrome-plated metal case.

DEFECTS: Light cosmetic scuffs and wear on the case consistent with age; a small vintage engraving text scratched onto the back cover by previous owners; minor dial imperfection near the center of the minute sub-register (please inspect photos carefully)

HISTORY & LORE

Founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, the company revolutionized the science of sports chronometry. Heuer introduced the first stopwatch with a 1/100 second accuracy and became the official timekeeper for major international athletic competitions and motorsports. Vintage mechanical stopwatches from the mid-20th century represent the gold standard of precision craftsmanship, before quartz technology took over the timing industry.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All vintage mechanical stopwatches require careful handling to preserve their delicate internal mechanisms:

  • Do not drop or subject the stopwatch to severe mechanical shocks.
  • Wind the crown gently until you feel natural resistance; do not over-wind.
  • Keep away from water, high humidity, and strong magnetic fields.
  • Service every 2-3 years by a professional watchmaker to maintain proper lubrication and accuracy.
