HISTORY
Dominion is a respected name in the production of high-quality English carriage clocks, particularly active during the mid-20th century. These clocks were designed to carry on the tradition of the "pendule d'officier," originally created in France for military officers to use in the field.
The British firm Dominion specialized in robust, gold-plated or gilt-brass cases with reliable 8-day movements. These movements were engineered to be wound just once a week, showcasing a high level of mechanical efficiency. Featuring mineral glass panels on all sides and the top, Dominion clocks were prized for allowing a full view of the balance wheel and escapement in motion, making them both functional timepieces and decorative works of art.
RECOMMENDATIONS
All Antique watches and clocks are mechanical. Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches).
- Antique clocks should not be beaten or dropped - because repairs may be expensive.
- Antique clocks are generally NOT waterproof. Therefore you should protect your antique clock from exposure to moisture.
- Winding any mechanical clock tight may break the mainspring. If you can avoid it do not wind the clock hard.
- When adjusting the hands, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement.
- Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage clocks to ensure longevity.
- Keep your antique clock away from magnets and extreme temperature changes.
