HISTORY

The Waltham Watch Company, also known as the American Waltham Watch Co., was a legendary pioneer in the American industrial revolution. Founded in 1850 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, it was the first company to mass-produce watch parts with such precision that they were interchangeable. Over its century of operation (until 1957), Waltham produced approximately 40 million high-quality timepieces. The company was renowned for its innovation, providing watches for railroad timing and the military, and it remains a cornerstone of American horological history, highly prized by collectors for its engineering excellence.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All Antique watches are mechanical. Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches).

  • Antique watches should not be beaten or dropped - because repairs may be expensive.
  • Antique watches are generally NOT waterproof. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture.
  • If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly.
  • Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring.
  • When adjusting the hands, move them in a clockwise direction only.
  • Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches.
  • Keep your antiques watch away from magnets.
