RARE VINTAGE CERTINA NEW ART WATCH WITH DATE

Genuine Swiss Made Mid-Century Dress Piece — Circa 1964

In-House Manufacture Caliber Certina 25-661 / 17 Ruby Jewels

Stunning Milanese Mesh Bracelet / Solid Steel Case Ref. 5301 108

A beautiful premium opportunity for vintage enthusiasts to acquire a flagship mid-century modern design from one of Switzerland's finest independent historical manufacturers.

Up for sale is an incredibly elegant and beautifully preserved Certina New Art mechanical men's dress watch, manufactured in Switzerland circa 1964. The "New Art" line was Certina's premier mid-60s design collection, celebrating clean geometric symmetry, thin elegant profiles, and high-fashion executive style.

This timepiece features a beautifully integrated 33.0mm solid stainless steel case with a completely flush design. The factory-original silver sunburst dial is in near-immaculate condition, hosting minimalist applied steel baton hour markers, fine hands, and a useful date aperture window at 3 o'clock. The dial is protected by a classic vintage domed acrylic crystal which has been freshly and professionally polished. This masterpiece is powered by the rare, high-grade Manufacture Certina Caliber 25-661 mechanical hand-wound movement, entirely engineered and produced in-house by Certina.

To complete this high-end vintage aesthetic, the watch comes fitted on a gorgeous, premium vintage stainless steel Milanese Mesh bracelet. The mesh texture feels wonderfully smooth on the wrist and catches the light perfectly, turning this piece into an absolute showstopper for executive or formal wear.

DEFECTS: Excellent vintage condition! The dial and hands are beautifully preserved with no major flaws. The stainless steel case is sharp and retains its original lines. Shows honest, minor cosmetic micro-scratches/hairlines on the steel screw-down back case from standard use over the decades. The acrylic crystal is clear, clean, and polished. Fully functional and ticking strong!

THE DESIGN HERITAGE: CERTINA NEW ART

During the mid-1960s, Swiss watch design moved away from the bulky designs of the post-war era toward ultra-sleek, minimalist art concepts. Certina introduced the **New Art** series as their flagship luxury dress line to showcase this aesthetic transition. Utilizing high-grade solid steel monolithic round cases and integrated low-profile lugs, these watches were engineered to slide effortlessly beneath an executive shirt cuff. Powered by exceptionally reliable in-house manufacture calibers, the New Art series remains a highly collectible testament to peak mid-century modern watchmaking style.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All Antique and vintage watches are mechanical. Repairs require precision, so please handle this historical artifact with care.

  • Mechanical manual-wind watches should not be beaten or dropped - sudden shocks can damage the balance staff or hairspring pivots.
  • Vintage and pre-owned watches are generally NOT waterproof due to aging case gaskets. Protect this fine vintage timekeeper from immersion in water, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments.
  • If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
  • Wind the watch daily at around the same time. Turn the crown clockwise gently until you feel a distinct stopping resistance — do NOT force the crown past the stop point to protect the mainspring.
  • When adjusting the hands of your watch, it is best practice to move them in a clockwise direction only.
  • To change the date, cycle the hour hand between 23:00 (11 PM) and 24:00 (Midnight) back and forth to advance the day wheel safely.
  • Every 2-3 years it is recommended to service, clean, and oil fine Swiss movements to keep them running accurately for generations to come.
  • Keep your watch away from strong modern magnetic fields (large speakers, modern laptops, magnetic cases) since magnetic exposure can alter the hairspring performance.
  • Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
  • Mechanical watches naturally experience a very minor daily deviation error. An accuracy of +/- 15 to 30 seconds a day is considered standard and excellent for a vintage daily caliber.
