HISTORY & LORE

The First Moscow Watch Factory (1MWF / Poljot) was the flagship timekeeping enterprise of the Soviet Union. Renamed "Poljot" ("Flight") in 1961 to commemorate Yuri Gagarin's historic spaceflight, the factory was celebrated for producing premier military, aviation, and civilian timepieces.

In the late 1970s and 1980s, Poljot expanded its export line to Western nations, offering slim and precise quartz watches under Latin brand markings. Powered by the reliable 2460 quartz caliber, these export timepieces combined classical European aesthetic styling (such as Roman numerals) with genuine Soviet engineering.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All vintage electronic and quartz watches require careful handling to preserve their historical integrity.

  • Vintage electronic and quartz watches should not be beaten, dropped, or exposed to heavy physical shocks.
  • Most vintage watches are NOT waterproof unless specified otherwise. Protect your timepiece from exposure to moisture, heavy rain, or water submersion.
  • If your watch becomes wet, open it promptly and dry the interior components to prevent oxidation of electronic contacts and circuit tracks.
  • Keep your vintage watch away from strong magnetic fields (large speakers, industrial magnets) which can interfere with quartz crystal oscillator accuracy.
  • When changing the battery, use a qualified technician or gentle hand to avoid damaging delicate internal contacts or coil windings.
  • To clean the case and acrylic crystal, use a soft non-fibrous cloth.
  • Vintage quartz watches operate best when maintained with fresh silver-oxide batteries (such as Sony / Murata SR927SW).
  • Watch with calendar. It is recommended to adjust the date when the hands are in the lower half of the dial (e.g. at 6:00) to protect the calendar gear mechanism.
