An absolute masterpiece from the golden age of Swiss watchmaking - incredible addition to any luxury collection

Up for sale is a genuinely authentic, highly collectible, and exceptionally beautiful Omega Seamaster manual-wind mechanical wristwatch, manufactured in Switzerland in 1961 (Serial number 18,899,792). This timepiece represents the peak of mid-century Omega elegance, combining a rugged, high-grade movement with iconic design lines.

The watch features a solid stainless steel case made by the prestigious historic case-maker Central Boîtes (CB), highly favored by collectors for its sharp, faceted lugs. The case has been professionally and meticulously buffed to remove minor hairlines and now holds a brilliant, mirror-like shine. The screw-down back cover displays the crisp, embossed Seamaster Sea Monster emblem. The pristine silvered dial is adorned with gleaming hand-applied markers and houses a date window at 3 o'clock, protected by an excellent acrylic crystal. It features its original Omega-signed crown.

Inside is the magnificent, in-house Omega Caliber 610 movement, adjusted to two positions with 17 ruby jewels. The watch comes paired with an authentic vintage steel Omega Speedmaster Professional bracelet installed by its previous owner. It fits beautifully, functions flawlessly, and keeps superb time!

DEFECTS & BRACELET NOTE: Excellent vintage condition. Minor micro-scratches have been carefully polished out, leaving the watch looking immaculate and bright. The steel Omega Speedmaster bracelet was fitted by a previous owner; please note that the end-links do not sit perfectly flush with the Seamaster case profile, and some links were removed over time, making the maximum wrist circumference 6 3/4 inches (approx. 17 cm). Perfect for small to medium wrists, or ready to be paired with a premium leather strap!

HISTORY & LORE: THE SEAMASTER LEGACY

Introduced in 1948 to celebrate Omega's 100th anniversary, the Seamaster line is the oldest family in the Omega collection. It was loosely based on the waterproof watches designed for the British military during World War II, engineered to be rugged enough for maritime adventures yet sophisticated enough for formal evening wear. The iconic Seahorse (Hippocampus) logo on the case back was conceived by designer Jean-Pierre Borle, who was inspired by an image of Neptune riding a seahorse-drawn chariot on a visit to Venice.

This 1961 reference (14384) is a highly coveted artifact from the golden era of the line. The heavy stainless steel case was machined by Central Boîtes (CB), one of Switzerland's legendary luxury case factories, famed for creating bold bevels that collectors highly prize today. Powering this beauty is the phenomenal Omega Caliber 610. Finished in Omega's famous copper plating, adjusted in multiple positions to negate gravitational errors, and featuring manual-winding engagement, it is widely regarded as one of the most reliable and aesthetically beautiful movements ever built. To own a 1961 Seamaster is to own a piece of pure Swiss horological royalty.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All Antique and vintage watches are mechanical. Repairs require precision, so please handle this historical artifact with care.

  • Vintage mechanical watches should not be beaten or dropped - shocks can easily damage the high-grade balance pivots.
  • Vintage watches are generally NOT waterproof. Despite the "Seamaster" name, age compromises gaskets. Protect it from water, heavy rain, or swimming.
  • If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
  • Winding any mechanical watch too tightly may snap the mainspring. Stop winding immediately when you feel firm physical resistance from the crown.
  • When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only to safeguard the safety of the gear train.
  • Every 2-3 years it is highly recommended to service, clean, and oil luxury vintage watches to protect your investment.
  • Keep your watch away from strong modern magnetic fields (large speakers, laptops, magnets) since magnetic exposure can alter the balance spring performance.
  • Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
  • Vintage Swiss mechanical watches naturally experience a slight daily deviation error. An accuracy within a minute or two a day is excellent for a vintage timepiece from 1961.
