RARE VINTAGE CERTINA WATERKING MEN'S WATCH

Genuine Swiss Made Executive Timepiece - Circa 1966

Legendary In-House Manufacture Caliber Certina 25-66 / 17 Jewels

Solid Stainless Steel Screw-Down Back / Reference 5201 075

A beautiful opportunity for collectors to acquire a golden-era Swiss horological masterpiece with a full in-house manufacture movement.

Up for sale is a classic, highly sophisticated Certina Waterking mechanical men's wristwatch, manufactured in Switzerland in 1966. This line represents Certina's mid-century dominance in producing ultra-reliable, robust daily watches designed to withstand elements while maintaining an elegant executive silhouette.

The watch features a well-proportioned 33.5mm stainless steel bezel case with sharp, prominent lugs. The original sunburst silver-tone dial boasts beautiful applied silver/black baton hour indicators, matching elegant hands, and a central sweeping seconds hand. The face is covered by a classic vintage domed acrylic crystal that gives the watch a wonderful warm reflection. The watch is powered by a gem of mid-century engineering - the manual-wind Manufacture Certina Caliber 25-66. Unlike common vintage brands that used generic third-party movements, Certina crafted this exquisite 17-jewel movement entirely in-house. It is fully checked, freshly serviced, and ticking strong!

DEFECTS: Great vintage condition. Shows honest cosmetic traces of time and gentle wear such as micro-hairlines/scratches on the steel case and case-back. Acrylic crystal is clean and polished. Overall beautifully preserved for a 60-year-old timepiece!

THE HEART INSIDE: MANUFACTURE CERTINA CALIBER 25-66

In the vintage watch world, the name Certina commands extreme respect. During the 1960s, Certina was a true independent "Manufacture" - meaning they designed, engineered, and manufactured their own movements from scratch, putting them in the same technical tier as Omega, Longines, and Rolex of that era. The Caliber 25-66 is celebrated by watchmakers as a pinnacle of durability. Featuring an elegantly simple architecture, oversized mainspring barrel, and exceptionally rigid bridges, it is a movement famous for running flawlessly across decades with minimal attention. Seeing it operating today is a testament to genuine mid-century Swiss horological superiority.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All Antique and vintage watches are mechanical. Repairs require precision, so please handle this historical artifact with care.

  • Mechanical manual-wind watches should not be beaten or dropped - sudden shocks can damage the balance staff or hairspring pivots.
  • Vintage and pre-owned watches are generally NOT waterproof due to aging case gaskets. Despite historical names like "Waterking", protect this fine vintage timekeeper from immersion in water, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments.
  • If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
  • Wind the watch daily at around the same time. Turn the crown clockwise gently until you feel a distinct stopping resistance — do NOT force the crown past the stop point to protect the mainspring.
  • When adjusting the hands of your watch, it is best practice to move them in a clockwise direction only.
  • Every 2-3 years it is recommended to service, clean, and oil fine Swiss movements to keep them running accurately for generations to come.
  • Keep your watch away from strong modern magnetic fields (large speakers, modern laptops, magnetic cases) since magnetic exposure can alter the hairspring performance.
  • Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
  • Mechanical watches naturally experience a very minor daily deviation error. An accuracy of +/- 15 to 30 seconds a day is considered standard and excellent for a vintage daily caliber.
