18K Gold Electroplated Bezel & Accents / 23 Jewels Swiss Made

With Original Bi-Color Stainless Steel Bracelet / Ref. No. 785

It would be a great find for any collector or vintage enthusiast

Up for sale is an upscale, elegant, and eye-catching Swiss-made rectangular chronograph from the renowned house of Appella Geneve (Reference No. 785). This fine timepiece perfectly combines classical Art Deco geometric "Tank" aesthetics with a highly accurate, complications-heavy movement.

The watch features a striking bi-color design with an 18K gold electroplated bezel and matching bracelet elements contrasting beautifully against the steel case. The deep dark dial hosts three detailed chronograph sub-dials, gold-tone Roman numerals, and a convenient date window at the 4 o'clock position. Inside beats a premium Swiss ETA 251.471 quartz movement with 23 jewels — a masterfully engineered, fully serviceable metal movement built for high precision and longevity. The watch comes on its original integrated bi-color steel bracelet with a signed Appella clasp. It is fully functional, all chronograph functions reset perfectly to zero, and it keeps flawless time!

DEFECTS: Good vintage condition. Honest small cosmetic traces of use and minor hairline scratches on the case and bracelet, as expected from a pre-owned vintage watch. The 18K gold plating remains bright and intact on the bezel.

HISTORY & LORE

The Appella brand was established in 1942 by the visionary Swiss watchmaker Paul Glocker in Porrentruy, Switzerland. Rooted deep within the prestigious lineage of Swiss horology, Appella has spent decades blending classic aesthetic concepts with modern state-of-the-art technological advancements. The number "1943" proudly engraved on the back cover commemorates the first full production year of the company's early Swiss masterpieces.

This specific model, featuring a beautiful rectangular "Tank" silhouette, represents Appella's high-end corporate style from the turn of the 21st century. Instead of utilizing cheap disposable plastic quartz movements, Appella chose the premium, heavy-duty ETA 251.471 caliber. Boasting 23 jewels and a highly durable all-metal gear train construction, it remains one of the finest, most robust Swiss quartz chronograph movements ever designed, blending maximum luxury with tactical mechanical precision.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All Antique and vintage watches require precision, so please handle this historical artifact with care.

  • Vintage quartz and mechanical watches should not be beaten or dropped - hard shocks can damage internal electronic or mechanical components.
  • Vintage watches are generally NOT waterproof. While this piece features a 3 ATM rating, protect your timekeeper from direct contact with water, heavy rain, swimming, or high humidity.
  • If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
  • Winding or setting any watch too tightly or roughly may damage the setting components. Please adjust the crown smoothly and gently.
  • When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction to ensure the safety of the gear train and calendar wheels.
  • Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields (large speakers, industrial magnets) since extreme magnetic exposure can temporarily affect quartz stepping motors performance.
  • To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the links or case seams.
  • Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
  • Watch with calendar. It is not recommended to adjust the date between 20.00 and 06.00, because at this time the automatic adjustment mechanism is engaged. Adjust dates outside this timeframe to avoid damage to the gears.
  • Chronograph watches. It is strongly recommended not to press the "reset" button if the chronograph is running. Before you use the "Reset" button, always stop the main chronograph hand using the "start/stop" pusher first.
