HISTORY & LORE
The Chaika Watch Factory in Uglich produced numerous reliable mechanical timepieces during the Soviet era. Custom and commemorative dial variants were frequently issued to honor major institutions, anniversaries, and universities.
This particular piece features the emblem and 40th-anniversary milestone of the Cherkasy Institute of Engineering and Technology (ЧІТІ), established on the rich educational foundation originating from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute's Cherkasy faculty in 1960.
RECOMMENDATIONS
All vintage mechanical watches require careful handling. Please keep the following recommendations in mind:
- Vintage mechanical watches should not be dropped or subjected to shocks to protect the balance staff.
- Vintage watches are generally NOT waterproof. Protect your timepiece from direct contact with water, heavy rain, or high humidity.
- Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring. Stop winding as soon as you feel natural resistance.
- When adjusting the hands, move them in a clockwise direction only.
- Every 2-3 years it is recommended to service, clean, and oil vintage watches to keep them running accurately.
- Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields (speakers, modern electronics, magnets).
- Mechanical watches naturally experience a daily deviation error; accuracy is not guaranteed due to age.
