THE HEART INSIDE: THE SWISS ETA 2824-2 LEGEND
The movement power source inside this Appella timepiece is nothing short of a Swiss horological icon. The **ETA 2824-2** is widely universally recognized as one of the most successful, durable, and reliable automatic mechanical movements ever engineered in Switzerland. Introduced in its modern iteration in 1982 (with roots dating back to the 1961 Eterna calibers), it operates at a high frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, creating an incredibly smooth sweeping motion of the seconds hand.
Utilized by elite luxury Swiss watch brands for decades, its legendary status comes from its rigid, indestructible architecture and ease of precision fine-tuning. Paired with a scratchproof sapphire crystal front and a clear glass window on the back, this watch offers a brilliant front-row view of pure Swiss mechanical ingenuity designed to run flawlessly for generations with simple maintenance.
RECOMMENDATIONS
All Antique and vintage watches are mechanical. Repairs require precision, so please handle this historical artifact with care.
- Mechanical automatic watches should not be beaten or dropped - sudden shocks can damage the balance staff or rotor bearings.
- Vintage and pre-owned watches are generally NOT waterproof due to aging seals. Despite the factory "50 M" marking, protect your vintage timekeeper from direct immersion in water, swimming, or high humidity.
- If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
- Winding an automatic watch manually via the crown is safe, but do it gently. Around 20-30 turns is more than enough to fully charge the mainspring from a dead stop.
- When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only to prevent stress on the complex calendar gear train.
- Every 2-3 years it is recommended to service, clean, and oil fine Swiss movements to keep them running accurately for decades to come.
- Keep your watch away from strong modern magnetic fields (large speakers, modern laptops, magnetic cases) since magnetic exposure can alter the hairspring performance.
- Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
- Mechanical watches naturally experience a very minor daily deviation error. An accuracy of +/- 10 to 20 seconds a day is considered excellent for a Swiss automatic caliber.
